Borderlands Progrssion Rate and Thoughts

I was able to get my hands on a copy of Borderlands last night and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. At first I had a feeling that the game was going to be lopsided as it pertains to its genre's structural layout. I figured the game would either be too RPG heavy with little focus on the FPS action or heavy on FPS elements and too light on the Role Playing. Within the first two hours of playing the game those thoughts were tossed out the window. Developer Gearbox has successfully blended to extremely hardcore genres into one satisfying glob of bloody goodness.

Without inundating you with spoilers lets get right into my current progression rate and thoughts.

Progression Rate:
  • Currently 2.5 hours into single player campaign
  • No Multi-Player games played yet (though I am excited to)
  • 9 weapons successfully found/purchased
  • 3 of those weapons successfully upgraded
  • 1 boss battle thus far...laced him in the face.
  • No co-op played as of yet
Quick Thoughts:
  • Graphically pleasing on the eyes!
  • Digging the "cell shaded" graphics (Gearbox doesn't like calling it that)
  • Sound FX are crisp, loud and feel powerful (we are big on SFX)
  • Gameplay is solid and well balanced
  • RPG elements are somewhat "dumbed" down but satisfying
  • The game reminds me of a FPS version of Diablo II
  • LOOT...TONS OF FREAKING LOOOT!
  • 50+ Hour Game Easily
  • One Complaint: Need a better Map System
So far so good for Borderlands. Check back here later this week for my second progression rate summary and more quick thoughts. Until then...
