Darryl Nix, that was an impressive comment, and well appreciated. You are exactly correct, I do want to play HoN because it is exactly like Dota, and though I see how Summoner upgrades and hero/champion rewrites would excite some players, its just not for me.

HoN has tackled some of the issues with DOTA, such as expanding account name/avatar stats (including leaves), pumped up graphics, showing all allied heros on the screen for easier unit selection, and from what I can see, added new heros. S2 has taken DOTA, uprgaded it, and will hopefully continue to follow in the path DOTA has set, and that is what draws me to it.

League of Legends has made all similar upgrades like I have mentioned for HoN, but they have added some twists that make it unique. In short, HoN can be easily catogerized as DOTA part 2, while LoL was created from the DOTA foundation, it has added enough to be considered its own title. And believe me, I respect that.

The fact that I dont like the game is pure opinion, like I said in my earliest post, some will love it, and some will hate it. Thats with any game.

This new genre is going to expand, and many new titles will be releasing following the mold that DOTA has set. I expect each to create its own audience, therefore breaking the user monopoly that DOTA has accumalated being on Battle.net.

I wish every game that proceeds DOTA nothing but success, and I have no doubt that each game will be fun and unique. I just choose to stay with the original. Lol does not feel like DOTA, which is what was bothering me, but HoN does, which is why I will play it over LoL.

Its a choice. Time will tell which grabs more attention from PC gamers, and somehow Im hoping LoL wins that battle... either way...

Annie's abilities- Single target nuke, front cone, immo aura/damage reduc, summoned pet, every 6th spell is a stun.

Lina's abilities- Skill shot aoe stun, passive ms/as increase, front wave, single target one shot.

Same hero? Clearly the same hero. Obviously.

As far as the top 5 issues thread, most of them are complaints. Have you checked? There is tons of negative feedback about hero balance, the ui, hero selection, the music, and loads of other trash that people want to see, i.e. dota copies.

Wrong. Icefrog was willing to allow it. Icefrog who only allowed HoN to do it because Guinsoo gave it to him to go work on LoL.

As far as denies go, I wish they would have an option to enable it. But they don't, and the game is good enough without needing it.

Recipes have 0 correlations to anything in DOTA, stats on heroes aren't even the same.

LoL stats- Ability power (spell damage), attack speed, attack strength, crit chance, crit damage.

Definitely the same thing. Definitely.

If you played the game this last weekend you'd see how match making worked and understand that level ones don't play against level thirties. If you're losing a fight then something like 4 ability power isn't going to win you the game (i.e. the difference runes would make over the course of four levels, which is the matchmaking window).

I hear you're not allowed to have placeholder sound clips in a beta. Just what I hear though.

They probably will, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the game. If you want to play HoN then say you want to play HoN because it's exactly like DOTA with nothing improved upon and nothing changed other than some graphics. Don't say you want to play HoN because it's better and that's what the pros do.

People who call themselves pro DOTA players are typically elitist pricks who couldn't play their way out of a paper bag when something comes around that they didn't get a chance to study for four years. I.E. YOU. If you want to favor HoN then just say you don't want all the item shops you memorized, all the juke spots you learned, all the hero abilities you memorized to amount to nothing. Just say it. Hell, you're probably one of those idiots that won't even play the Watchtower map in HoN beta because it's different.

Summary: LoL is easier on the learning curve than HoN and DOTA, but the skill cap is just as high, and the balance is improved upon.

How about this, all the LoL employees that get paid to counter blogs that defame the game, take a seat. I read the Top 5 forum for issues during beta testing. Did you guys erase all the negative posts? Heros are new, WOW! Im not impressed. Summoners are cool, WOW! Im not impressed.

Gamers that loved DOTA are gonna be forced to play this LoL replica. Thats a sad day in PC gaming.

Blizzard was willing to allow the game to remain intact while moving off the Warcraft III engine, all someone had to do is host it, upgrade it, and maintain it. The title itself will hold a massive following regardless. Heroes of Newerth is attempting to do just that, so my vote is with them.

Well from my understanding you level up and get more abilities. So, if you play a person lower level you get an advantage. That makes the game even easier for the people that should already win.

Common sense says they would have to move it off of Warcraft III enigne eventually, so here we are. League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth (upon completion of both) will battle for popularity.

I don't really know if this post is some kind of joke, but it comes off as one.

There are zero direct imports of any heroes, at most there are some imported abilities which is hard to avoid given that the original creator of DOTA is the head developer.

Map control is the same, nothing changed here. Except maybe you didn't see the unlock button in the top right that let's you move just like DOTA.

There are no denies in this game, and units are easy to click on to get last hits. Did you even play this game or look at the box and decide to trash it?

Summoner advantages are totally irrelevant because every summoner has the same options. Yes. Every option, exactly the same. Not sure how anybody gets an advantage there, but go figure.

I've played dota for three years (a good while before icefrog inhereted it), and LoL was an improvement in almost every fashion.

Here's my advice blizzkid. Load up LoL, get into a que, and pick Ryze at the champion select screen. Now hit the "Y" button so your camera is unlocked and enjoy picking bads apart.

Seriously though, yes they changed DOTA. I'm not sure if you heard, but they're part of the same genre. It's called MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arenas) and it's an amazing genre. Some games try and improve on DOTA and fail (demigod) and some make their own identity and make it amazing (LoL). The fact that you would write off this attempt to improve the genre for Heroes of Newerth which has 12 year olds in charge of balance and nothing but direct imports in every aspect of the game is appalling.

I think your point about starting the game on unequal grounds with Summoner augments is extremely valid. This unfair start will hurt its appeal for competitive gaming. I am not so sure LoL is about competition although, it seems it will be more about playing it for the experience of what it is, for the same reason you play an RPG - not for the competitive aspect.

Along those lines think this game will be very enjoyable, but I think you hit on something and that is the viability of it becoming a mainstream e-sport.

about 6 months ago, and for the few years before that, i played a LOT of competitive dota, and i was pretty damn good.

well, i like the avatar features a lot, and summoner spells really help make the game interesting but really, the best part is the actual game.

its all the little touches just a lot more fun. i think they totally did awesome on making games faster but still cool (I don't like -em because of what it does to the game balance in dota) but i much prefer shorter games in general, and the champion designs are totally awesome. did you play cryophoenix? totally different from any dota hero. chogath is also totally awesome, i love him. you might want to try out twitch or karthus for some really cool spells also.

i also thought i'd never want to play dota without deny, but i actually prefer it a lot after playing a while. it makes the early game so much more fun... i dont stress about the denies, and i feel like i gank and harass a lot more.

i dont know why you are so frustrated with the camera. i think it might be good to zoom out a bit more, but like, you did find out how to unlock it right? with the Y hotkey... it defaults as locked.

on 'the other game', i've played it too, and its basically dota with more shiney graphics, and new balance problems. i still play it some because i dont have extra lol keys and my old dota teammates play it, but i find a lot of the stuff in it really frustrating after playing LOL for a while. its just really painful sometimes, maybe 1 in 5 games is a really competitive fun one, while in lol with matchmaking, nearly every game with the guys i met there is vs a pretty good team.

I'm an avid dota player starting way back when DOTA Allstars came out. I would consider myself a Dota "PRO". To be honest with you LoL is better then dota. There are incentives to finish a game rather having people rage quit.

Ok, first off I would like to thank everyone commenting. Any discussion, either for or against my opinion, somehow leads to the truth.

My first question? How long have those defending LoL played DOTA? I only ask because this game is made by the creators of DOTA. I would be shocked if dedicated DOTA pros were feeling comfortable playing this game, but its possible. If you did not play DOTA much, or even at all, then I totally see where your excitement is coming from. DOTA, and LoL for that matter, have a unique game style. The 5v5 team co-op action RTS is by far the most exciting and challenging combonation game style I have played.

In my opinion though, LoL tried to upgrade DOTA by making it look different, and by adding almost meaningless features to your avatar. DOTA has worldwide attention for 4 years running, and they recently held tournaments in California and overseas. Why change a game that successful?

Camera stuff, Champion (or Hero) stuff, Summoner (or avatar) stuff, are all just cosmetics. When the match starts, its DOTA, no matter how many runes my Summoner has. This game is trying to make its own identity by taking the core of DOTA and twisting it into something that looks completely different. You must have played one game. My first game was very tough, things were very new and took some grasping.

In the menu there is an option to change the scale of the UI. Check it out, see if it works better for you.

The heroes have a few abilities that are akin to DotA heroes, but none of them are clones.

The moving around camera, I guess you didn't unlock your camera. It's very smooth.

heroes are way different than DOTA and in most cases way more fun. Lots of really unique heroes, like Cryophoenix and Tryndamere and Annie. If you are concerned about hero uniqueness, why are you all over that "other game" which is a straight up clone?
